P. the Photographer II

As much as I'm cheapskate, I love reading catalogs - especially during the holidays. One of the things I saw again and again in department store and toy catalogs was cameras for kids. You know, like point-and-shoots with princess branding or a digital camera right in Barbie's belly (which is just too weird). I think giving cameras to kids is an awesome idea, but frou-frou Disney princess cameras with limited options and cruddy resolution? Not for us, thanks!

P. was DELIGHTED to rip the wrapping off our old Panasonic Lumix on Christmas day. It's not the best digital camera, especially considering that it's pretty old in electronics years, but it's just perfect for an almost-four-year-old with a strong interest in capturing her little world.

Was the camera P.'s favorite Christmas present? Nope - that honor goes to the Dream Light she asked for after seeing a television commercial at a friend's house. But it's probably the semi-practical present that has gotten the most use so far, and the mister and I absolutely love looking at the photographs she takes.

What was your favorite present this past Christmas?

    1. Lucky lady! So far, P. has been stressed out by trying to pick out gifts for others. We're working on generosity but it's slow going.

  2. Those pictures are so cute - it's wonderful to see the world from a child's perspective! My favourite presents were a beautiful bed throw from my boyfriend, and some pretty patterned bowls from my Mum. x

  3. I am really impressed with her photography skills!

My favorite gift, by far, was one I gave. I bought a pair of size 3T gym pants and had "CRANKY" embroidered across the butt. I then gave them to my 27-year-old best friend... who managed not only to get them on over his giant feet, but pulled them all the way up to his knees!

  4. Aw love it! It gives you a glimpse at how a young child look at the world through her "eyes". Thanks for sharing! Great to find your blog.

  5. I was going to give my 4yo my old point and shoot but the grandparents bought him one of the toy digital cameras. Good for getting dropped all the time, and he's only interested in the delete button so no photos to show for it yet!
