I keep forgetting about the firsts most of don't write in the memory books. Among them is dropping off forgotten glasses at school.
Did I mention I took P. to get her first pair of glasses recently?
We've known for a while that her eyes aren't perfect. P. doesn't have any serious vision problems that require heavy correction but she does have structural issues in her eyes. Possibly related to her premature birth, though maybe not, and we'll never know for sure.
What we do know is that she failed her school eye exam and that meant going back to the eye specialist we visited two years ago. The hope had been that as she grew those structural issues would self resolve but it's looking like that's not going to happen.
Luckily she's young enough that glasses aren't a big deal socially and she's growing up in an age where there are a lot of eyewear options for kids. So many, in fact, that both she and I were kind of overwhelmed.
In the end I spent way too much on her first pair because I wanted her to get exactly what she wanted. That was my attempt to make glasses something fun and fashionable instead of something to be sad about.
Her choice surprised me. Green frames! I was happy that they were extra light and sold as extra durable. You can actually pull the arms completely to the sides, which will be helpful if Bo gets his hands on them.
It took her a few days to get used to wearing them, which reminded me of how I tripped up stairs for a week after I got mine. They're a very mild prescription, though, to the point where P. says her world doesn't look any different with them on.
And, according to the eye specialist, she may still grow out of them. But chances are that even if she grows out of this prescription she may grow into the nearsightedness both me and the mister have in varying degrees.
Those sunglasses I'm wearing? Prescription. At the very least, we're all in this new adventure together. Except for the pajama pants. That's all me.
P.S. - I have been reading through this blog and it's just so lovely. Check it out! Also, I'm giving away an Owlet smart monitor over at Hello Mamas. Entry is super easy and the Owlet? Is amazing.
